They gave it the chop?!

I learned today that they have axed "Neighbours" in Australia after about a million years on the air.

There were few TV shows that I followed religiously when I was growing up. But believe me when I tell you, "Neighbours" was one of them.

It gave the world Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan, Guy Pearce, Natalie Imbruglia, Alan Dale (my American friends will know him best as Mr Meade from "Ugly Betty"). Such pedigree - and they cancelled it?!

To be honest, it could have turned into complete swill in the last 10 years and I would have no idea - it's been about that long since I watched a complete episode.

But I wanted to bid my own special farewell to the show by posting this You Tube clip of THE wedding of the century. Scott and Charlene Robinson. She got out of overalls and put some lippy on, and then they both buggered off up to Brisbane and no one ever saw them again.

Whoever would have thought that they really just buggered off to London and made about a squillion pounds each?!

Such memories....reminisce with me, if you dare!

i thought it was only axed by the bbc and supposedly being picked up by another pommie tv network....

however, u never know, after 20 years of crap the producers may have decided to pull the plug....hopefully

You got me a bit panicked as well although I think I could top your ten years since I last saw a full episode (and certainly not home in Australia, I only indulge in the UK where watching it does not create serious concerns about your mental wellbeing...).

However, dodgey is right I think: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neighbours

Nevertheless, it is never inopportune to look back on the wedding which makes all other television weddings pale in comparison. Which not only gave us Scott and Charlene but also a song sung at a thousand weddings by a bald guy whose band is named after his rose tattoo.

This sort of thing makes me feel ridiculously homesick although I can't say that my life back home ever really compared to Ramsay Street ;)

PS: Is it really over 20 years since it started!! I remember it...

Maybe I gave you a bum steer - I need to start listening to the full news reports, bloody Britons, all I know is there was outrage. But it's a mild relief that I can stop watching it again - I was stocking up on the 'quality' drama before it carked it ... tell me who hasn't written their comment humming the theme song ... "Neighbours, everybody needs good neighbours, with a little understanding (crescendo), you can find the perfect friend .....", it's pretty bad really

Allow me to reminisce with you Gab....*ahem*

SUDDENLY YOU'RE SEEING ME, JUST THE WAY I AM!
SUDDENLY YOU'RE HEARING ME,
SO I'M TALKING JUST FAST AS I CAN, TO YOU!
SUDDENLY, EVERY PART OF ME,
NEEDS TO KNOW EVERY PART OF YOU!

*ahem*

Especially for you
I wanna tell you I was feeling that way too
And if dreams were wings, you know
I would have flown to you
To be where you are
No matter how far
And now that I'm next to you

No more dreaming about tomorrow
Forget the loneliness and the sorrow
I've got to say
It's all because of you

(CHORUS)
And now we're back together, together
I wanna show you my heart is oh so true
And all the love I have is
Especially for you

**staring off into the distance**

Yeah "Neighbours" - what memories!!

I'm disappointed a bit of Push Up didn't make it in to the mix tape Jem ... I know it was post 80's but still, they would have loved it if it had been around!
